Munden House B&B

"There's something nasty in the wood shed".  At Cold Comfort Farm maybe, but not at Munden House. Their "shed with a chandelier", as owner Colin describes it, is a little slice of heaven in the Dorset countryside. Nothing I saw on-line could have prepared us for how happy this place would make us, it pressed every single one of our happy buttons.

A warm welcome from Colin and Annie, confirmed everything we had read in their extremely positive TripAdvisor reviews.  Nothing was too much trouble, including pre-arranging dinner in the evening. Cooked by Annie who is in possession of culinary skills capable of giving Masterchef a run for it's money, using home grown or locally sourced seasonal ingredients.  I always wondered what it would be like to have dinner in a private dining room, but that's what we had.  Asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto, herb marinated chicken, courgette ribbons and wild rice, followed by home made pana cotta and syrup infused apricots, made for a comfortable few hours, interspersed with charming conversation with the hosts and a couple of pink gins.  On a scale of 1 to 100 we were 150 on the satisfied scale.

Munden House is in a perfect location for exploring the southwest of England. Within easy reach of Stonehenge, Glastonbury, the Jurassic Coast and Poole Harbour, to name a few, the area is rich in history and sightseeing opportunity.  Not much else needs to be said.  A picture speaks a thousand words so I will let them do the talking ...

The attention to detail at Munden House shows that Colin and Annie care about what they do, even down to the choice of White Company toiletries, plush towels, Egyptian cotton bedding and fresh flowers in the room.  I can't wait for the next time John has to travel south for business.  I will be going along for the ride and maybe, I can persuade him to linger a little longer in the Summerhouse.

  1. The headroom in that lounge is amazing! They should attach a couple of ropes to the roof so the guests can swing around like Tarzan. I feel a little sorry for the chickens, though.

    1. As long as guests don't swing on the chandelier! They were happy little chickens with the freedom of the gardens and they would run down to the Summerhouse to greet us!
      Thanks for visiting GB

    1. Hi Renee,
The stone wall part of the house dated over 300 years old. It felt safe in that room, sturdy and safe! I knew you would like this place, with your design eye :-)

    1. Hi Elizabeth,
I know your love is Scotland, but if you ever get south, this place is a must. There is a bakery right next door which you would love. They use their breads in the B&B and run baking courses there!

    1. Hi Yvonne,
It is a wonderful spot. The owner Colin did see it and loved it. My review was totally independent and unsolicited, but I felt very strongly that I wanted to do I. We loved it there so much, it was memorable.

  12. Dear friend, I am always mesmerized by snowflakes...what a miraculous thing!
Can't wait to see your post.
Yes, Odessa is a fascinating place, but unfortunately much of its soul has been lost after the recent mass migration of colorful residents.
Much more commercial these days, but still definitely worth a visit!
Thanks so much for visiting me :))
    Much love,
