It's comments like that which could add to the reasons why, given any opportunity, Wales is so willing to stick it to England on the rugby pitch and today, that's just what we did. To all my English friends out there, I love you, please accept my tongue poking in the manner it is intended. A Welsh woman who, for as long as I can remember, has screamed at the television for the past 24 years in the hope that Wales could pull it off. Today they did just that. For only the second time in history Wales beat England on their home turf at Twickenham, the only other time being in 1988. The English are, I am sure, crying at this very moment "we were robbed". It was a close call, but Wales triumphed 19-12 securing the Triple Crown. The clash was gladiatorial. Please therefore, excuse me this one time for being so chuffed ....
So what is it I like so much about the game of rugby. Oh, I can't think what ....
We now have to face Italy and France to achieve the Grand Slam. Watch this space, if they do it I might just publish a picture of me eating my hat. Enjoy!

I saw the results! WOOO! I arrived to live in Wales the week of the Grand Slam in 2005. It was magical... especially since I spent every day in the Hilton Business Center with Max O'Kelly, the flyhalf (i think) of the Irish team. phoar!
ReplyDeleteOh Di, how I have missed your posts... I have suddenly come over all Welsh ;)

Abby,
ReplyDeleteTime just seems to run away with me sometimes. I used to beat myself up about not blogging regularly but I have decided I am in charge, not the blog, so now I only do it when I actually have something to say.

Congratulations! I have no doubt some of my ancestors are jumping for joy (my gr-gr auntie was from Wales)--while the rest of the English ones are cringing. I will be sure and check back in to see how it all goes with the men-in-pink. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Di
ReplyDeleteI am delighted to hear Wales won. I have always had a soft spot for Wales, I am Irish, however, my maiden name is Glynn, which apparently is Welsh.
The excitement and joy must be wonderful. There's nothing like the home team winning.
Continue celebrating!!

ReplyDeleteMy husband was asking me just the other night what women think about rugby and the Haka etc. I did my best to hold back when explaining that of all the athletes...rugby players are the most pleasant to look at :O) All that ritual and manliness.
ReplyDeleteokay....
ReplyDeleteyou know i am a U.S. gal.

I am not into sports, but I am Irish and loved Richard Burton.
ReplyDeleteDo believe he was from Wales.
I also have relatives in Glasgow.
Congratulations on the big win.
The French guy looks like he was poured into that shirt.
Have a winning Season,
yvonne
Congratulations! I don't understand a single thing about the game except that a bunch of guys tumble on top of each other and the ball seems to never be "dead."
ReplyDeleteAs for what it is you like about the game... So, it's the pink outfits, is it?
I was talking to my mother yesterday (she's Welsh) and she was euphoric at Wales' victory which she had watched from beginning to end.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope this team emulate the fantastic days of Gareth Edwards (that ages me!!). :)
He is looking stiff and strong.
