I won almost everything I bid for, including a complete set of six 1940s Maling lustre grapefruit/sundae bowls ....
And if only I had the space to keep these, I would have been shoving them into the back of the Volvo in a heartbeat ....
That leather over wicker trunk was superb, not perfect, but nevertheless a great find. It's smell left a bit to be desired, "Eau de Mould". Nothing a good airing couldn't fix. The initials, L.M.K., intrigue me. Who do you think this belonged to, obviously a well travelled person with wealth. The bankers chair was perfect, but sometimes, you just have to let it go. :-(

There's nothing like the excitement of auction day!! It has been so, so long since I've been - it's lovely to live vicariously though! :-)

Fantastic, Dianne dear, that you had a successful auction...
ReplyDeleteThe lustre ware is calling my name!
Yesterday we were at our local consignment shop, and I was so intrigued by the steamer trunk we saw. What stories these could tell.
A lovely day to you, sweet friend..

Di,
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine your excitement at the auction, coming so soon after the match win for Wales. I bet the air was electric. – gary
GOOD EVENING my friend!
ReplyDeleteIt is so fun to see your whereabouts as you go and do what you are obviously very good at! Those bowls are just beautiful and yes, that trunk is divine! What is on your agenda for the evening dearest? Elizabeth got me hooked on Downton Abby; Ruben bought all the seasons out on DVD so tonight I am snuggling up with him and the rest of the cast for some INTRIGUE!
Have fun my dear, Anita
The trunk is amazing! I love pieces that carry such personal history...I would be so curious to know who it belonged to!
ReplyDeleteGood morning dearest! Did you get enough rest my dear? I sure did. I fell asleep after my THIRD episode of Downton! OHhhhhh it is so good and I hope that BATES gets his act together to marry Hannah! We have all the seasons available, and then we will just have to wait until the remaining seasons are out on DVD! UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS sounds good too! LOVE those British dramas and of course, French movies because not only is the writing and production wonderful (American movies can be overly done), but the sets INDEED offer the senses so much in ideas for the home and garden!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Monday my dear Di! Anita
Oh, I love those bowls. And that trunk would have snagged me immediately. What great finds.
ReplyDeleteThank god for my volvo estate! i can put so much in the back and still have room. I shoved a 6-foot long church pew in there that the movers SWORE would never fit.
ReplyDeleteI rented some tiny little car for my trip... with automatic. Can't even be bothered with gears careening around those little roads in the Vale!
Hello!
ReplyDeleteHow are you? Did you have a great weekend? This auction looks fabulous!!! I love that trunk, I would love that in my house, I do not know where but somewhere.
I have been to so many antique stores while I have been in Milwaukee I do not even think I can get everything home! My husband is not happy, but my mom and I sure had fun.
Come over to my blog Tuesday...I have Tagged you.!! You must come over and get your questions to answer. I cannot wait to see your answers.
Have a great day, Elizabeth
Loved the chair, pity it went.
ReplyDeleteL.M.K.: obviously Looking at My Knockers, the notorious Victorian sex addict and Pervert.
Make quite the collectors pice.
My dear Di, I love the selection you won at the auction. I thought they are real gems!! Well done!! I love that chair. Brown furniture is something so out of fashion at the moment. But I love the design and solidity of the craft!! Thank you so much for your kind comment. Hope all is well with you. I'm doing fine apart from being very busy recently!! Take good care of yourself, ASD
ReplyDeleteI would love to go with you to auction, Di.
ReplyDeleteI love to read about your auctions! Glad you won good stuff! We used to do that a lot, when we had a little antique [ mostly vintage] store in Vermont. I love the lustre ware you won, and the trunk looks cool, too. How do you get rid of the moldy smell?
